Today, the World Cup kicks off. For the next five weeks, 48 nations will battle it out in stadiums across North America while the rest of us watch from the couch.

But here's a stat that surprised even us: 171 nationalities play football with FC Urban. That's not a typo. Players from 171 countries book games, build teams and battle for bragging rights on our pitches every week.

That's more nations than the actual World Cup. So we did the only logical thing — we built our own.

Introducing the World Cup Leaderboard

From 11 June to 19 July, every FC Urban game you play counts for your country. The leaderboard is live in the app right now, tracking three things:

• Wins — because winning is winning
• Goals scored — for the strikers who want receipts
• Games played — because showing up is half the battle

Your country climbs the board with every game its players complete. Right now the board is empty — the first game played puts the first flag on the map. That could be yours.

How to join

It takes about thirty seconds:

1. Open your profile in the FC Urban app and set your nationality (tap Edit profile → Nationality)
2. Book and play games anywhere on FC Urban between 11 June and 19 July
3. Watch your country climb — the leaderboard updates live on your home screen

That's it. No qualifiers, no group stage, no penalty heartbreak. Just play.

Become your country's champion

Here's where it gets personal. The player with the most wins and games played during the tournament gets crowned the official FC Urban World Champion of their country.

Think about that title for a second. Champion of the Netherlands. Champion of Brazil. Champion of Japan. There are 171 of these crowns up for grabs, and most countries only have a handful of serious contenders. Your odds are honestly pretty good — if you play.
